The new Demon Slayer movie has officially made history, breaking major box office records across the globe. As the highest grossing Japanese film ever released globally.
If you are an anime fan, there is huge news to celebrate. Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is now the number one anime film of all time. It has overtaken the previous champion, Mugen Train, to claim the top spot worldwide.
Here is a simple breakdown of the massive records this movie has broken.
A New World Champion, Highest Grossing Anime Film Worldwide
The biggest headline is the global success. Infinity Castle has earned over US$555 million worldwide. This incredible number makes it the highest-grossing anime film in history. It is also the highest-grossing Japanese film ever released globally.
To put that in perspective, the movie earned about US$229.85 million (34.01 billion yen) just in Japan. The rest came from huge support in countries all over the world.

Breaking a 26-Year Record in the US
The success isn’t just global; it is huge in the United States, too. For 26 years, Pokémon: The First Movie held the title of the biggest anime movie in the US. That record has finally been broken.
Infinity Castle has earned a total of US$104.7 million in US theaters, easily passing the $85.7 million record set by Pokémon back in the late 90s.

- Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Spain.
It is also performing incredibly well in Europe, earning over $8 million in both French and German-speaking markets. In Taiwan, it is now the 6th highest-grossing movie of all time, including Hollywood blockbusters, beating films like Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
